Prime Minister Gilani has represented Pakistan as a state observer of the SCO Forum, and was joined by the leadership of the SCO countries, including Russia, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, the Palace of Constantine here.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan attached importance to the SCO and believed that the organization had the ability and willingness to solve the most pressing challenges of times. He added that the SCO had enormous potential to promote regional economic cooperation in a holistic manner.
He said that terrorism, extremism, drugs and criminal conspiracy was to compare the communities, states and the region. He said to emphasize the pervasive global financial and economic crisis, unemployment and socio-economic picture was bleak.
He said, however daunting, but these challenges can be overcome with the creation of an integrated response based on the clarity and constantly working together.
He reiterated Pakistan's desire for full membership of the SCO and gratitude expressed to all members for their support of this request.
Gilani asked the security and development as important regional issues. He said the challenges of reconciliation, reconstruction and recovery of the political system of Afghanistan should be treated objectively. He welcomed the SCO's role and efforts in this regard.
He said that Pakistan was optimistic that the problems in Afghanistan could be solved with support from the international community and taking on board all Afghans, regardless of ideological, ethnic or political preferences.
He said the political realism and clarity of Afghanistan asked the sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected at all, and added that Pakistan will continue to contribute to the stability of Afghanistan and support for the government and people in their efforts towards reconciliation and reconstruction.
Gilani said that political will and concrete actions to fully realize the vision of the OCS.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has announced funding of 0.5 billion dollars for the CASA-1000, which would ensure a transfer of power from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also called for investment to develop national economies.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said that the role of the SCO in the elimination of terrorism, extremism and separatism, saying the organization to withstand changes in the international arena. Pakistan supported the proposal for the construction of border roads.
He suggested that political support for the free movement of goods, the establishment of a seed bank for cooperation in agriculture and the expansion of currency swap.
Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov proposed for implementation of the Development Bank of the SCO Business Council and SCO for the challenges of the global economy.
